Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for advancing the mission of BikeWalk Virginia and the overall success of its programs and services. The Director works with the Board of Directors and staff to develop an annual plan for advocacy, education, and special program activities. The Director then carries out these programs working with the staff, volunteers, and partner organizations. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. In planning and implementing Bike Walk Virginia activities, the Director:
- manages day-to-day operations working with staff and volunteers
- prepares annual budgets and publishes monthly financial statements
- acts as the principal external spokesperson for BWV
- leads and supports the development of a network of BWV chapters in communities across the state
- oversees the planning and marketing of Bike Virginia and other special events
- coordinates all fund raising and sponsorship solicitations
- builds positive working relationships with relevant state agencies and national stakeholder organizations
- plans the annual BWV statewide conference
- manages and coordinates special grant programs such as Activate Martinsville/Henry County, Bike Smart Virginia, and the Virginia Bike/Ped Safety Guide
Required Skills and Experiences
- previous experience in a non-profit organization involved in advocacy and education , including managing a sizeable budget
- a demonstrated passion for biking, walking, and trail use
- previous experience seeking and administering grants from public and private sources
- desire to work with the general public in promoting responsible and safe bicycling , walking, and trail use for transportation, recreation, health and fitness
- training and experience in developing and implementing educational programs for the general public
- ability to motivate and manage a large number of volunteers devoted to carrying out the organizational goals
- ability to manage the office staff as an effective work team
- ability to raise funds to achieve BWV goals and objectives
- ability to develop effective working relationships with community organizations, state agencies, and partner organizations
Compensation Range $50, 000 - $70,000
